She is Professor in Cancer Genetics and Hereditary Cancer at Karolinska Institutet, is a senior clinical geneticist and medical oncologist, and researcher at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, Sweden. She earned an MSc in Molecular Biology, an MD, and a PhD in Medical Genetics from Karolinska Institutet, she currently serves as Head of the Hereditary Cancer Unit at Karolinska Comprehensive Cancer Center, while leading a research team focusing on Hereditary Cancer Risk and Cancer Prevention. She is the Swedish coordinator in the European Reference Network for Genetic Tumor Risk Syndromes (ERN GENTURIS) and the Registry holder for the Swedish Quality registry for Hereditary Cancer Risk and Surveillance (NOGA).
Professor Bajalica Lagercrantz has made significant contributions to the field of hereditary cancer genetics, particularly through her work on constitutional TP53 mutations and Li-Fraumeni syndrome. She has been instrumental in establishing the Swedish Constitutional TP53 Cohort (SWEP53) and developing national surveillance programs aimed at improving early cancer detection and survival in high-risk families. Her research team integrates molecular genetics, clinical oncology, and precision medicine to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and management of hereditary cancer risk syndromes.
